HSE & quality

Safe sites, quality work

Safety and quality are planned, checked and recorded on every Alba-Tec site.

Certified systems

Alba-Tec's quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, and our OSH management system is approved under Abu Dhabi OSHAD. Every project follows our Quality Control Manual, a project HSE plan and approved method statements.

Emirates Steel recognised our teams for excellent safety performance in 2016.

Quality control

Procedures from our Quality Control Manual, issued for approval at the start of each project.

Documents and submittals

Calculations, drawings, materials, method statements and test results are submitted for approval before work starts.

Material clearance

Every delivery is checked on arrival against the approved source, dimensions and test reports, then stored as specified.

Non-conforming work

Non-conforming products are identified, recorded, segregated and resolved with the consultant, and the affected parties are notified.

Civil works

Checklists for concrete pours, masonry, plastering, structural steel, metal cladding and roofing, from formwork to curing.

Electrical works

Inspection and testing of HV transformers and panels, LV supply, light fittings and power layouts.

Mechanical works

Fire fighting and hydrant networks and domestic water supply are pressure tested and signed off before handover.

Safety on site

The essentials of our HSE plan and safety work practices.

  1. 01

    Induction and toolbox talks

Every newcomer gets a site safety induction, and a toolbox meeting is held and recorded before each day's work.

  2. 02

    Personal protective equipment

Hard hats, safety shoes, reflective vests, eye, hearing and respiratory protection and gloves, matched to each task.

  3. 03

    Inspections and safety officers

Safety officers plan and run site inspections, keep signage and safety facilities in place and stop unsafe acts.

  4. 04

    Electrical and tool safety

Grounded or double-insulated tools, monthly checks, tagged-out defects and only electricians repairing equipment.

  5. 05

    Lifting, excavation and traffic

Certified lifting equipment, shored trenches and excavations, and site traffic rules for every vehicle and driver.

  6. 06

    Hot work and fire prevention

Controls for welding, cutting and flammable materials, with fire drills and fire-fighting equipment on site.

  7. 07

    Incidents and emergencies

All incidents, near misses and first aid cases are reported at once to the safety officer and the client; trained first aiders and an emergency response plan on every project.

  8. 08

    Housekeeping

Clean work areas, scrap removed promptly and surplus material returned, because good housekeeping prevents accidents and fires.

Construction methodology

How our method statements take a building from the ground up.

  1. 1

    Soil investigation and treatment

Site investigation, soil treatment and the removal of all unsuitable material before work starts.

  2. 2

    Excavation and backfilling

Excavation, filling under slabs, pavings and roads, and compaction in tested layers.

  3. 3

    Concrete and waterproofing

Concrete works and waterproofing to British Standards and the project specification.

  4. 4

    Blockwork, metal and joinery

Masonry blockwork, metalwork and glazing, carpentry and joinery to approved shop drawings.

  5. 5

    Plaster and finishes

Plastering and rendering, screeds and toppings, floor, wall and ceiling finishes and suspended ceilings.

  6. 6

    Lifts and building services

Lift installation, plumbing and drainage, and electro-mechanical works including ductwork.

  7. 7

    External works and handover

Paving, landscaping and external services, followed by testing, snagging and handover.
